Khaleda Zia may return to the country on Monday, accompanied by her two daughters-in-law. ABM Abdus Sattar, Khaleda Zia’s personal secretary, told People’s Time on Wednesday that preparations are being made for her return on Sunday or Monday. “The air ambulance has not been finalized yet. We are waiting for confirmation,” he said. On January 7, Khaleda Zia was flown to the UK in a special air ambulance arranged by the Emir of Qatar. She was admitted to the London Clinic, where she received treatment for 17 consecutive days before moving to her son Tarique Rahman’s residence. Her treatment is ongoing under a medical board led by liver specialist Dr. John Patrick Kennedy. A member of the BNP Chairperson’s medical board said Khaleda Zia has not been given a complete discharge from the clinic, but doctors have allowed her to travel home under continued medical supervision. According to reports, she will be accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, Dr. Zubaida Rahman and Sharmila Rahman. It is still uncertain whether all three of her granddaughters will also return. Sharmila, wife of the late Arafat Rahman Koko, has traveled to Bangladesh occasionally, but Dr. Zubaida, wife of Tarique Rahman, is returning after a long time. Both she and her husband went into exile in London during the caretaker government in 2007. Following Eid-ul-Fitr, Khaleda Zia underwent a full medical evaluation over several weeks, which showed gradual improvement in her health. She is reportedly in better condition than before. The 79-year-old former Prime Minister has long been suffering from liver cirrhosis, kidney complications, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and other health issues. However, doctors at the London Clinic have refrained from performing a liver transplant due to high risks. |
