Professor Dr. Md. Hazrat Ali, from the Department of Civil Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has been appointed as the interim Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).

The appointment was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Thursday. According to the notice signed by Senior Assistant Secretary A.S.M. Kasem, Dr. Md. Hazrat Ali has been appointed to carry out the routine responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, with the approval of the President and Chancellor, in accordance with the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act. This appointment will remain effective until a full-time Vice-Chancellor is officially appointed.

The notification further states that he will receive the same salary and benefits as his current position and will be entitled to other facilities related to the post as per regulations. As the chief executive officer of the university, he will be required to reside on campus full-time. The President and Chancellor reserve the right to cancel this appointment at any time if deemed necessary.

Previously, on April 25, the Ministry of Education relieved KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam of their duties in response to student protests.
