Bangladesh Army has clarified that it has received no directive from the government to deploy troops for the upcoming central student union elections at universities.
In a press statement issued on its verified facebook page on Thursday, the army said they have come across reports circulated in various media outlets and on social media about possible army deployment, clarifying that no such instructions have been given and there is no scope for the army’s future involvement in these polls.
The statement further said that the elections can be conducted peacefully and in a festive atmosphere with the direct assistance of existing law enforcement agencies and under the overall supervision of university administrations.
The Bangladesh Army extended its best wishes for the successful completion of the upcoming student union elections.
