Case filed against nearly 1,100 over student-villager clash near CU

A lawsuit was filed on Tuesday against 95 named and 1,000 unnamed individuals for attacks on Chittagong University (CU) students that left around 450 students injured on Saturday-Sunday.
CU Deputy Registrar Abdur Rahim Badi filed the case with the Hathazari Police Station in Chattogram, confirmed the police station’s Officer-in-Charge Abu Mahmud Kawsar Hossain.
Jobra village resident and Jubo League leader Md Hanif was among those accused.
As per the case statement, disagreements rose between students and people from Jobra village over a female student’s quarrel with a gatekeeper for entering her rented apartment at 11:30pm on Saturday. The villagers later attacked the students with sharp local weapons.
Police tried to pacify the villagers but failed. The violent mob caused property damages worth at least Tk4.35 lakh.
