The Business Standard Google News Keep updated, follow The Business Standard's Google news channel The latest adjustment represents a sharp increase across all major fuel categories. Diesel has been raised by Tk15 per litre, octane by Tk20, petrol by Tk19 and kerosene by Tk18. The notification stated that the move was necessary to maintain stability in supply and ensure adjustment with global price trends. Officials said the revision aims to align domestic fuel prices with international market movements, where oil prices have remained volatile amid ongoing disruptions in global energy supply chains linked to the Iran conflict. Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman criticised the hike, saying global prices are falling while Bangladesh has increased fuel rates. He described the move as "deeply unfortunate" and said it would further burden people already struggling with rising living costs. Earlier, the Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had indicated that fuel prices might need adjustment due to rising import costs, especially from non-traditional sources and the spot market. The hike comes at a time when global oil prices had shown signs of easing following a brief reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
