RMG Wage Structure Set for December Implementation, Salaries to Rise in January

Garment workers across Bangladesh are expected to receive revised salaries from January as a new minimum wage structure takes effect in December, members of the minimum wage board announced following their inaugural meeting on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, board participants confirmed that the revised wage framework will be finalized and implemented next month, ensuring workers benefit from the updated pay structure starting in January. The board is scheduled to convene for its second meeting next week.

The six-member government-formed board, tasked with reviewing and establishing the minimum wage for the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, held its first session at 11:00 AM.

The meeting was chaired by Senior District Judge Syed Azad Subhani, with Dhaka University Professor Mosleh Uddin Ahmed serving as the independent member. The board includes BGMEA Director ABM Shamsuddin and Bangladesh Employers' Federation Joint Secretary Asif Ayub representing factory owners, alongside Babul Akhter and Anwar Hossain representing garment workers.
