![]() India Following Bangladesh RMG Unrest Closely, Says MEA Spokesperson India aims to build a positive, constructive, and forward-looking relationship with Bangladesh, Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during a bi-weekly media briefing in New Delhi on Tuesday. Addressing queries regarding bilateral ties against the backdrop of Bangladesh’s expanding engagements with China and Pakistan, Jaiswal reiterated India's commitment to fostering stable relations. "As far as India's relations with Bangladesh are concerned, as I have mentioned earlier, we want to build a positive, constructive and forward-looking relationship with Bangladesh," he said, adding that New Delhi remains committed to working toward that goal. Regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s potential visit to India, the spokesperson confirmed that a formal invitation has already been extended and that both sides would coordinate accordingly. Jaiswal also noted that India is closely monitoring the ongoing garment sector protests in Bangladesh. "There have been developments there and we continue to follow those developments," he said. Asked about issues concerning transit and the renewal of the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty, Jaiswal pointed to the Joint Rivers Commission as the primary bilateral framework for handling shared water resources. "That is the structured mechanism for discussion on all cross-boundary rivers, including the Ganga," he said, noting there were no further updates to share at present.
