Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has joined over 2,200 young leaders from more than 190 countries at the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Organised to provide a global platform for young changemakers, the annual summit focuses on developing collaborative solutions to pressing international challenges, including climate change, peace, equity, healthcare, technology, and human rights, according to a press release from the Yunus Centre.

The event features an array of prominent international figures and advocates, including Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, former First Lady of Mozambique Graça Machel, and Nobel Peace Prize laureates Tawakkol Karman and Maria Ressa. Other notable speakers include Academy Award-winning actor and UNESCO Special Envoy Forest Whitaker, and actor and human rights activist Terry Crews.

Addressing delegates on Tuesday evening, Queen Rania urged the global youth to challenge international double standards and resist attempts to dismiss their moral clarity.

"Anger at injustice is not weakness; it's proof you're paying attention. Caring deeply is not the opposite of thinking clearly," Queen Rania said, as reported by Jordan's Petra news agency. "Standing up for each other isn’t sentimentality; it’s how we pay our dues."

Rejecting critics who undermine youth activism—specifically regarding pro-Palestinian student protests—she noted that young people are confronting global issues with unprecedented intellectual rigor.

Reflecting on South Africa's history, Queen Rania drew parallels between current global dismissal tactics and those used against anti-apartheid leaders like Nelson Mandela. "In 1997, Madiba said that South Africa’s freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians," she recalled. "Yet with Palestine, dismissal has reached a whole new level."
