Former MP Shamima Sent to Jail After Bail Rejected in Jubo Dal Leader Shamim Murder Case A Dhaka court has rejected the bail plea of Krishak League leader and former Member of Parliament Shamima Akhter Khanam in connection with the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Shamim, and ordered her to be sent to jail. Metropolitan Magistrate Atikur Rahman issued the order on Sunday after a hearing involving the investigating officer. The information was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Rukunuzzaman of the prosecution division of Paltan Model Police Station. Earlier on Saturday evening, Shamima was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) from the Jigatola area of the capital. On Sunday afternoon, DB Police’s Mothijheel Zonal Team SI Ferdous Alam, the investigation officer in the case, produced Shamima before the court and requested that she be kept in custody. Her lawyer, Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, submitted a bail petition on her behalf. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail request and ordered that Shamima be sent to jail. On October 28, 2023, the BNP called for a grand rally in Dhaka, to which the Awami League responded with a counter-rally on the same day. During the ensuing clashes, Jubo Dal leader Shamim was killed. A case was later filed at Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024, in connection with the incident.
