![]() Hijama: Prophetic medicine bridging with Modern science The seminar was presided over by Professor Mahbubur Rahman Saki, President of the World Unani Foundation (Bangladesh Chapter). In his presidential address, he emphasized that “Hijama, as a Sunnah-based therapeutic practice, is still not widely recognized in the mainstream healthcare system of Bangladesh. However, it continues to be practiced in various regions through traditional practitioners. To ensure safe and effective treatment, there is a pressing need for registered and trained practitioners to take the lead. Moreover, government intervention is essential to curb the rise of unqualified or fraudulent practitioners.” The event featured several distinguished guests who joined virtually. Among them were Dr. Yunus Iftikhar Munshi, Assistant Director at the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), India, who addressed the gathering as a Guest of Honour. Another Guest of Honour, Hakeem Mohammad Ahmad Salemi, President of the National Council for Tibb, Pakistan, also shared his insights virtually. The seminar’s Chief Guest was Dr. Mohsin Dehlvi, Central President of the World Unani Foundation and Managing Director of Dehlvi Remedies, who also participated virtually. The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an. Hakeem Ruhul Amin Milon, General Secretary of the World Unani Foundation (Bangladesh Chapter) and lecturer at the host college, delivered the welcome speech. Several prominent figures addressed the audience as special guests, including: Dr. Hakim Abdul Gani, Vice President of the Foundation, Dr. Mujibur Rahman, Dr. Hakim Abdullah Al Mamun, Organizing Secretary, Hakim Bakaoli Molla, Hakim Mustafizur Rahman Sobuj, Hakim Shah Alam Bhuiyan, Hakim Zahidur Rahman, Hakim Elias Hossain, among others. The seminar featured a scientific session focused on the contemporary scientific understanding and therapeutic benefits of Hijama therapy. Four research-based papers were presented by the following speakers: Hakeem Ruhul Amin Milon, Lecturer, Hakim Habibur Rahman Unani Medical College & Hospital, Dhaka, Dr. Ghazala Mulla, Principal, ZVM Unani Medical College, Pune, India, Dr. Mushfiqur Rahman, Faculty Member, Hamdard University Bangladesh, Dr. Abdul Jalil, Medical Officer, Lalpur Upazila Health Complex, Natore A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of a specialized magazine titled “Al Hijama”, which aims to contribute significantly to Bengali health literature and public awareness on prophetic medicine. The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from over a hundred registered practitioners and medical students from across the country, making the event vibrant and highly impactful.
