![]() ‘Whose interests are served by holding election in April?’ “The government is losing its neutrality on the election issue,” he said at a programme on Sunday. Mentioning various issues like Ramadan, inclement weather, and examinations, the BNP leader said holding an election during that period is completely impractical as it is not well timed. “The majority of political parties want the election to be held by December and there is no logical reason for going beyond that. It could even be held in August or September.” Khasru said the timing of the election in April is absolutely illogical and the question arises whose interests it would serve. “If the interests of certain individuals remain intact, there is doubt about whether the upcoming election under the interim government will be fair or not.” He urged the government to fix an election date based on consensus among all parties. On 6 June evening, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus announced that the next national election would be held on any day in the first half of April 2026. “Based on this announcement, the Election Commission will provide a detailed roadmap for the elections at an appropriate time,” he said in a televised address to the nation on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.
