At least 70 shanties burned in Narayanganj slum fire

At least 70 shanties have been gutted as a fire broke out in a slum of Narayanganj Sadar upazila.

The fire broke out near Dhaka-Narayanganj link road in Fatullah union of the upazila around 3am on Friday.

Seven fire units from Mondolpara, Hajiganj and Adamji fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after working for an hour.

 Neither the firefighters nor the locals were able to identify the source of the fire.

The locals and witnesses said the fire started suddenly and spread across the slum, covering the whole area with smoke.

Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, Abdullah Al Arefin said: “There are no casualties. We will know of the source of the fire and the total damages caused after investigation. “
