A statement of hundreds of scholars in Bangladesh
"Let’s not designate the corona virus pandemic on any communal prejudice"
|
The horrific spread of the corona virus worldwide is causing an extreme catastrophe for the entire human race today. The pandemic did not emerge targeting any specific country, religion or caste. And no one could think of such horror before. At a time when the entire human race around the world is working together to get rid of this pandemic, the headquarters of the Tabligh Jamaat in Nizamuddin India, and the Ummal-Madaris, the distinguished Darul Uloom Deoband, have been targeted to a pre-planned conspiracy and a dangerous propaganda to label the corona virus pandemic a communal disguise. We strongly condemn and protest against the heinous act of destroying communal harmony and unleashing fratricidal conflict during such a catastrophe. On behalf of the National Qawmi Madrasa Education Board, we would like to inform with great regret that at a time when the whole world is setting aside the differences of religion and caste and seeking together for a way out of the ongoing catastrophe, some media and some individuals in non-communal India are desperately working to create Hindu-Muslim divide. The propaganda surrounding Nizamuddin Markaz and Maulana Sa'd Kandhalvi and the Darul Uloom Deoband is tarnishing India's bright image not only on Muslims worldwide, but on all religions around the world. The scholars of the National Qawmi Madrasa Education Board believe that the Tabligh is a non-political, humanitarian and non-violent movement in the world. There is no record of state law violations against these hardworking workers around the world. No one has made such a complaint till today, nor can it, Allah willing. Tabligh's headquarter Banglawali mosque in Nizamuddin, Delhi is a place of pride and utmost respect, not for India alone, but for the entire world. For centuries, the Muslim world has known it as the centre of da'wah and Islamic preaching. Moreover, Maulana Sa'd Kandhalvi, the Amir of the World Tabligh, is not just a person. He is an institution. He is a world-renowned great figure, followed by the entire Muslim world. He has been leading the world Muslim Ummah including Muslims of India for almost two decades. His ancestors were pioneers of the anti-British movement. Thousands of Muslims from all continents flock to Nizamuddin Markaz every day to listen to his Qur'anic Sunnah-based guidance on Islam. If you listen to any of his complete statements to know him, you will understand how humane, polite and kind he is. Hence, the way in which Muslims across India are being targeted on the allegation of coronavirus spreading by the leader and markaz, is not only tragic, but extremely reprehensible. It is to be noted that due to the sudden announcement of lockdown by the Government of India to stop the spread of Corona virus, some of the preachers got stuck in Nizamuddin Markaz like others who got stuck elsewhere. The Delhi government had the full responsibility to arrange for the repatriation of these stuck people. We have learned in the media that some state governments had made arrangements for the repatriation of similarly stuck people. But the Markaz authorities did not get permission from the administration, even after making full arrangements for the return of these stuck preachers. We thus conclude that, to cover up its own failures, the Government of India targeted this great institution and its leader. Their actions have made India's liberalism questionable to the whole world. Therefore, we, the ulama of the National Qawmi Madrasa Education Board of Bangladesh, declaring our solidarity with Darul Uloom Deoband India, Jamiyate Ulama Hind, India and the Muslim community of India, would like to state that it is time to stop all conspiracy, propaganda and information terrorism against Nizamuddin Markaz and Maulana Sa’d Kandlavi while appropriate actions must be taken against the conspirators. At the same time, the alarming news in the Indian media stating the unjust arrest of a few foreign visa holders with valid visas in various places, demonstrates a clear violation of the foreign policy by the Government of India. It is the responsibility of the Government of India to release them as soon as possible and repatriate them. Also, all harassments, cases against certain Tabligh workers in different places and persecution on the Muslim minority in India must stop. The ulama of the National Qawmi Madrasa Education Board of Bangladesh believe that under the pandemic situation of the corona virus today, the world teaches us to be human. We hope that the Indian government will treat the Tabligh workers and the Muslims with humanity. The Indian government and administration were already aware of those who were caught in the sudden lockdown at Nizamuddin Markaz. Every day officers from government special agencies monitor and report it. The issue needs the cooperation of all as it falls within a humanitarian circumstance. The families of those who are in India are in boundless anxiety. Visitors from other countries, including Bangladesh, who are stuck in India due to the lockdown, should be facilitated with arrangements to bring them back to their respective countries. In this regard, we thank the various initiatives and sincere efforts of the Government of Bangladesh, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bangladesh High Commissioner.
