Actor Siddikur on 7-Day Remand in Attempted Murder Case

A Dhaka court has granted a 7-day remand for actor Siddikur Rahman in connection with an attempted murder case filed at Gulshan Police Station in the capital. The order was issued today (Wednesday) by the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court following a hearing on a police petition. Court-related sources confirmed the matter to People’s Time.

Earlier, police produced Siddikur in court and sought a 10-day remand for interrogation in the case.

According to the remand plea, on July 19, a rickshaw-puller named Jabbar Ali Hawlader was shot in Shahjadpur under Gulshan Police Station. Jabbar was critically injured and taken to Kurmitola General Hospital. Police stated that Siddikur’s remand is necessary to identify and apprehend those involved in the shooting incident.

The remand petition was submitted by the case investigation officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdus Salam of Gulshan Police Station.

On Tuesday, several videos surfaced on social media showing Siddikur being physically assaulted. The footage depicted him being dragged by a group of young men, his clothes torn, while some individuals were seen hitting him. Siddikur was visibly crying in the video. As he was being taken away, some people chanted slogans accusing him of being affiliated with the ruling Awami League. Eventually, he was handed over to police at Ramna Police Station and later transferred to Gulshan Police custody.
