Announce Election Roadmap, Hand Over to Interim Government: Tarique Rahman"

Calling for a clear roadmap for the upcoming parliamentary elections, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman urged the interim government to declare a specific plan. He emphasized the need to create an initiative that brings political parties before the people’s judgment. This initiative, he said, must be taken by the current interim government.

He made this call on Friday during a discussion meeting organized by the AB Party at the National Press Club on the occasion of the party's fifth founding anniversary.

Tarique Rahman said, “Every political party in the country supports reform. So why is the interim government delaying on this issue? Public skepticism is growing. If political parties are disregarded and the public’s verdict ignored, it will ultimately put democracy at risk. I urge the interim government to announce a specific roadmap for national elections and take steps to bring political parties before the people.”

He further stated, “Reforms are being carried out to fix the state and politics. But if these reforms ignore the demand of political parties for elections, then what is their significance? This is now a question for many.”

Addressing political parties, Tarique Rahman said, “Although our ideologies differ, our shared goal is to protect national interests and promote the welfare of the people. Bangladesh was liberated in 1971 through immense sacrifice. We saw anti-domination movements in November 1975, an anti-autocracy movement in 1990, and now a movement against fascism in 2024. Why did so many give their lives at each of these turning points in our history? Their dream can only be honored by building the Bangladesh they envisioned.”

He added, “The political message of ’71 and ’24 is this: Bangladesh didn’t break away from West Pakistan in 1971 to become subservient to Delhi. On November 7, 1975, the soldiers and masses of this country made that message clear.”

The event was presided over by AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju and attended by leaders such as Mostafa Jamal Haider (Chairman, Jatiya Party - Zafar faction), Mahmudur Rahman Manna (President, Nagorik Oikya), Nahid Islam (Convener, National Citizen Party - NCP), Saiful Haque (General Secretary, Revolutionary Workers Party), Zonayed Saki (Chief Coordinator, Ganosamhati Andolon), Dr. Dilari Chowdhury (renowned political scientist), Maulana Mamunul Haque (Ameer, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis), Nurul Haque Nur (President, Gono Odhikar Parishad), Ahmad Abdul Qader (Secretary General, Khelafat Majlis), and Asaduzzaman Fuad (General Secretary, AB Party), among others.
