He made these remarks on Friday (May 2) at an event held at the National Press Club, marking the founding anniversary of the 'Amar Bangladesh' (AB) Party. Nahid Islam added that on August 5, the people decided that the Awami League would no longer be allowed to participate in politics in Bangladesh. According to him, the people can make such decisions in two ways: through voting or by demonstrating their position on the streets via mass uprising. He further said that the Awami League has lost its political base. Now, a legal framework must be put in place to address this. A trial should be held as soon as possible, and until then, the party's political activities should be suspended. The party's convener also emphasized the need for unity around a fundamental reform, through which the system of governance and transfer of power can be restructured. Without such reform, the aspirations of the people will not be fulfilled. |
