Dhaka University (DU) has suspended Ali Hussain, a student of the Department of Sociology from 2020–21 academic session, for six months on charges of cyberbullying a female student in social media.
The university authorities announced the decision on Tuesday, following the recommendation of the Proctorial Fact-Finding Committee.
Ali Hussain, class roll 54 and registration number 2020212768, is a resident of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall. Along with the suspension, the allegations against him have also been forwarded to the university’s Sexual Harassment Committee for further investigation.
Confirming the matter, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, acting director of DU’s Public Relations Department, said the authorities took disciplinary action in light of the findings of the probe body.
On Monday, Ali Hossain made a facebook post urging DU student leaders to hold a march demanding the gang rape of BM Fahmida Alam in response to her writ petition.
The petition led to a brief judicial stay order on holding the elections, and caused major protests against the order by student leaders.
