Islami Andolan demands a name change for Bangladesh. Islami Andolan Bangladesh has proposed changing the name of the country from “People’s Republic of Bangladesh” to “Bangladesh People’s Welfare State.” On Thursday (April 10), a six-member delegation from Islami Andolan submitted the proposal at the office of the National Consensus Commission located in the National Parliament building. The head of the Consensus Commission, Ali Riaz, received the written proposal. In the written statement, the party said the name of the state should reflect a philosophy that ensures the welfare of the people. Therefore, they proposed the name “People’s Welfare State of Bangladesh.” Ashraf Ali Akon, a presidium member of the party, stated that Islami Andolan Bangladesh submitted four proposals, which included promoting integrity, ensuring accountability, and implementing elections through the proportional representation (PR) system.
