Jyoti's Fastest Century Sets a Record for Bangladesh's Innings In the final over, two Bangladeshi batters were on the verge of centuries. Captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti was batting on 95, while Sharmin Akter Supta was on 92. Ultimately, Jyoti reached her hundred — and in doing so, set a new record. She now holds the record for the fastest century in women's ODIs for Bangladesh. Powered by the duo, Bangladesh also posted their highest-ever ODI total. In the Women's World Cup Qualifiers in Lahore, Bangladesh chose to bat first against Thailand and scored 271 for 3 — their highest ODI total to date. The previous best was 252 against Ireland. Jyoti reached her maiden ODI century in just 78 balls, significantly quicker than the previous two ODI centuries for Bangladesh, both scored by Fargana Hoque Pinky. Pinky’s fastest century had come off 156 balls against India. Jyoti surpassed that mark with ease. Though her innings wasn't flawless — she offered chances and survived three times — she managed to convert it into a century. Her intent was clear: to score quickly, even if it meant taking risks. While Jyoti was aggressive, Supta played the anchor role. Coming in at No. 3, she formed a 104-run partnership with Fargana. After Fargana was dismissed for 53 off 82 balls, Bangladesh needed acceleration, and Jyoti delivered. Though Supta missed out on her hundred, finishing unbeaten on 94 off 124 balls, she played a crucial role in setting the stage for Jyoti’s record-breaking knock. |
