"Clearly state when the election will be held and provide a roadmap: Mirza Fakhrul."

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the people of this country want to see their own government. Currently, there are no MPs; if there’s a problem, who will they go to? Local chairmen cannot solve all the problems. That’s why we are repeatedly saying: reforms must happen, and elections must be held.

He said, elections are very necessary for Bangladesh. If we cannot accomplish these tasks, it will not work. We hope that the government will come to its senses. They have said that they will try to hold elections between December and June. We say, don’t be vague — clearly state when the election will be held, and provide a roadmap. Only by presenting a clear roadmap will the people feel reassured.

He made these remarks on Monday afternoon during a public outreach program at Jagannathpur Union in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.

Mirza Fakhrul also said that the decision to create a "humanity passage" to communicate with the Arakanese should have been made based on the opinions of all parties. It was the government's responsibility to consult with all political parties, because we are already facing issues with the Rohingyas. We do not want war; we do not want to turn into another Gaza.

Speaking about the past, he said, over the last 15 years, I have had very little opportunity to meet with you because, as you all know, we were not allowed to live peacefully. During the 2014 elections, about nine people from this area were killed. In Boro Khochabari, one of our brothers had his hand cut off. In the 2018 elections, we couldn’t even enter this area. They burned our vehicles, cut down trees to block our roads, and prevented us from reaching you or participating in elections. You couldn't even cast your votes in those elections. For the past 15 years, you haven’t been able to vote — and the new generation hasn’t had the chance at all. Over these 15 years, we have suffered great losses. They have laundered billions of dollars abroad and looted the banks.

He added that the roads have become nearly impassable, yet in the name of development, they embezzled huge sums of money. If they even smelled someone was associated with the BNP, that person wouldn’t get a job. Business ventures failed, and people had to pay huge bribes for employment. The country's well-structured system has been destroyed. Later, the people became restless and eventually, at the cost of their lives, ousted Hasina. You have seen that during those days, people were not afraid of anything; they kept moving forward. Many cases were filed against you too, and many were imprisoned. Your only crime was that you supported BNP. The Hasina government did not allow us to work.

Mentioning that Sheikh Hasina forcibly clung to power, Mirza Fakhrul said that the Awami League held on to power by force. They did whatever was necessary to stay in power. We have to work all over Bangladesh, which is why we can’t spend as much time with you as we’d like. The common people of Thakurgaon have been deprived of development for the past 15 years — deprived of jobs, farmers of fair prices, and workers of their dues.

He continued, saying that if we are elected in the future, our first priority will be to create new employment opportunities. We will prioritize jobs. We will ensure that our youth, our young men and women, who currently have no jobs, are able to find employment. Let us work together to serve all the people.

The meeting was presided over by Jagannathpur Union BNP President Tofazzal Hossain. Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila BNP President Md. Abdul Hamid also spoke. Leaders and activists from the BNP and its affiliated organizations were present. Later, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also spoke at a roadside rally at Boro Khochabari in the same union.
