The Dhaka University Election Commission has demonstrated a bias towards Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) by ignoring complaints of election code violations by JCD activists, alleged SM Farhad, general secretary candidate from Chhatra Shibir.
Farhad praised the overall election environment amid high turnout, but alleged some inconsistencies were evident. The student leader was speaking to reporters in front of Udayan School on Tuesday noon.
Chhatra Dal activists repeatedly campaigned among voters within 100 metres of polling centres, violating regulations. They distributed leaflets among the students within restricted areas, SM Farhad alleged.
Earlier, Chhatra Shibir’s Vice President candidate Shadik Kayem raised similar allegations. Shadik also told reporters that Chhatra Dal had set up desks near polling centres, further violating regulations.
It has also been reported that the polling agent of the student group backed by Islami Andolon Bangladesh was prevented from entering a polling centre. Instead, Chhatra Dal’s polling agent was allowed entry, in a serious violation of election code of conduct, SM Farhad alleged, citing reports.
He called on students to come to the polling centres, cast their votes, and report violations. Only the high presence of students can thwart conspiracies, the student leader claimed.
